biography
I am a Brooklyn-based photographer and musician. My beginnings in photography go back to when I was still living in my hometown of Washington, DC. During the late 70's I began photographing fellow skateboarders and became involved in the local punk & hardcore scene. DC had a vibrant underground music scene at the time & I felt the need to document it for myself & my friends. I started to photograph live shows around the city, and to this day I’m still taking my camera to concerts. Through the years I've shot a variety of bands including Fugazi, Rites of Spring, Bad Brains, Embrace, K-Line, Gray Matter, Wire, Sink, That Petrol Emotion, Dag Nasty, Kiss, One Last Wish, Burnside Project, Bardo Pond, Queen, Jawbox, Beefeater, the Dickies, and many others.

Though I still love the immediacy & rawness of shooting live bands, I have also found myself drawn towards travel photography. Simply put, photography gives me an excuse to travel & traveling gives me an excuse to take photographs.

Over the years my photos have been published in Spin, Guitar Player, NME, Melody Maker, Fodor's Rock & Roll Traveler Guide, Our Band Could Be Your Life, Greed, Uno Mas, Dance of Days, DC City Paper and Banned In DC. (There are probably a few more that escape me at the moment). I’ve also had photographs displayed in various group shows at Seattle’s Experience Music Project Museum, in London at the 96 Gillespie gallery, and the Clementine Gallery in NYC.

I shoot primarily in black & white though I've recently been giving color a bit of a whirl.
